There is a long history of women whose names and contributions have been overlooked in the history of jazz. With their second album, The Legacy of the Ladies, Sisters of Jazz once again bring those voices to the forefront. Not simply as a history lesson, but as living, breathing music.Released by Storyville Records on November 20, 2026, this new album finds the Scandinavian sextet returning with the same six musicians behind their distinctive 2023 debut, The Hidden Ladies of Jazz. Vocalist Anna Pauline Andersson is joined by saxophonist Pernille Bevort, trombonist Lis Wessberg, pianist Catrine Ullerup Frølund, bassist Ida Hvid and drummer/percussionist Benita Haastrup. The album presents 13 tracks, drawing on a rich repertoire of standards and compositions associated with women who have played an important role in jazz history. Among the composers and lyricists represented are Marian McPartland, Mary Lou Williams, Irene Higginbotham, Peggy Lee, Norma Winstone, Ann Ronell, Barbara Belle and Anita Leonard. But The Legacy of the Ladies is about much more than revisiting the past. Sisters of Jazz approach this repertoire as contemporary jazz musicians, bringing their own personalities, arrangements and collective energy to every song. The result is music that respects it's roots while sounding unmistakably alive in the present; sophisticated, swinging, and full of character.Anna Pauline Andersson is a highly individual vocalist whose deeply personal way of communicating a song lies at the heart of the group's sound. She released her critically acclaimed solo debut album in June 2026 featuring artists like Randy Brecker and Janis Siegel. Pernille Bevort, a Ben Webster Prize winner and Danish Music Awards-Jazz nominee, is an acclaimed bandleader and composer. Lis Wessberg, one of Scandinavia's leading trombonists, is a composer and bandleader who has released three successful albums in her own name. Catrine Ullerup Frølund is a musician with a great ear for tone, colour and space. Ida Hvid is known for her deep grounding in jazz history, unwavering swing and beautiful tone. Benita Haastrup, a Ben Webster Prize winner, is a highly respected drummer and percussionist whose colourful, vibrant playing is an integral part of the ensemble's sound. These are musicians with their own artistic identities and careers, yet they come together in Sisters of Jazz around a common cause: to celebrate the women whose music and contributions have helped shape jazz history. It is precisely this combination of individual strength and collective purpose that gives the band it's character. The Legacy of the Ladies is ultimately a celebration of musical inheritance, and of artists who wrote, played, sang and shaped jazz, and of six accomplished musicians who continue to carry that music forward in their own distinctive way.Sisters of Jazz don't simply look back. They listen, remember, reinterpret and keep the legacy alive.
