In a somewhat incongruous setting of the basement theater in the Mayfair Hotel in London, on an ornate gilt chair, Fred McDowell, one of the last great Delta blues singers of his time, sat down to face his audience. Representing some of McDowell's finest recorded output, this performance, recorded live in 1969, underlines him as a leading light in the last line of blues giants on tracks including 'Write Me a Few Lines', 'Glory Hallelujah' (featuring Jo Ann Kelly) and 'When I Lay My Burden Down'.
