He grew up learning ranching and the cowboy life and was singing in church whilst learning to be a cowboy whilst still at school. Blessed with a golden deep voice he gained a job on radio as a singing cowboy and was invited by RCA to record for their legendary Bluebird label. He enjoyed a prolific recording career through the 1940s and 1950s, pausing only during the Second World War when he fought against the Japanese in the Pacific. In the late 1950s and early 1960s he returned to the studios to cut albums of country standards, well-loved hymns and cowboy songs. This release is taken from these sessions, which have never been released on CD before. Here are 28 tracks, beautifully remastered, 24 of them in true stereo - many of them released outside of the USA for the first time. Here, with country backing of guitar, fiddle, etc. Are golden favourites from the pens of Lefty Frizzell, Floyd Tillman, Jimmie Davis, A P Carter, Vaughan Horton, etc. Alongside well-loved traditional favourites, all sung in Texas Jim Robertson's golden, deep voice. Extensive liner notes to the CD by Country Music Radio presenter and writer Paul Hazell.
